Krissy Explains it All

I have been spending a lot of time in the 1990's lately and it has come to my attention that we were way cooler in the 90's. Think about it, back then kids channeled their angst into flannel and music, now they are killing themselves because of mean kids, eating doritos, and spending an ungodly amount of time playing Grand Theft Auto. American society has gone from cool, to losers in 10 years. If I could give American youth a wedgie and shove them in a locker I would. I can only imagine how frustrated my parent's generation feels. If I can see the wussification of American youth in my lifetime, I bet it's incomprehensibly worse for those baby boomers. Look at the downgrade in just 10 years:

TV in the 90's:
Clarissa Explains it all
Friends
Freaks and Geeks (just in under the wire)
My so Called Life
Pete and Pete
Ren and Stimpy

TV now:
Glee- don't even get me started
High School Musical
Jersey Shore

Music in the 90's: Music now:
Garbage
Blink 182
Everclear (youtubing them like crazy lately)
Britney Spears
Nirvana
Fiona Apple
Lisa Loeb

Music now:
Lady Gaga
Katy Perry
Taylor Swift (ok, so I love her)
Ke$ha

Trends in the 90's:
Grunge
Beanie Babies
Poggs
Sega

Trends now:
Playing xbox
emo
doritos

How did we let our nation's youth devolve into whiny bores who have blackberries and are afraid of germs? Back in my parent's day, bullying didn't even exist. They called it getting the shit beaten out of you back then. Not to mention, they didn't need the First Lady of the United States to tell them to slow down on the cookies and pie and no one on Sesame Street had AIDS. No wonder baby boomers are protesting like crazy, the future of America looks bleak.

  1. I want to go on a 10,000 word rant but I don't feel like typing that much. I think it all depends on your point of view and your age, and at most importantly, the way our legal system works. Most of the things your listed as cool, I thought were the stupidest things on earth at the time because I was a year or two too old for them. It's a never ending cycle.
As far as the legal crap, you can get away with anything these days and at the same time, you can't get away with anything these days. Too much technology, too many people looking to make a buck without working hard, too many people "living off the system". Parents can now sue teachers, sue bus drivers, sue anyone and they win because of idiot judges, lawyers and laws. That's why people have turned into big pussies in the last 15 years.
I also have this theory about baby boomers...they were soft on their children because their parents were so hard on them. Many came home from WWII and were alcoholic, violent people who treated their kids like crap out of anger. Now their kids are too afraid to reprimand their kids out of fear of retaliation. Make sense or am I being obtuse?
