What's your sign?

I'm a very practical person. I've had a 5 year plan since I was 15, I stopped believing in Catholicism when I turned 13 because I didn't have enough proof, and I always do my homework. I mean, I am a Capricorn after all.

And there we have it. A practical person who believes in astrology. It has been said that 90% of American females check their horoscopes on a regular basis, and most of them believe them. Being a 21 year old American female, I am certainly no exception to this statistic. I know my personality profile, I know that I'm an Earth sign and I also know that no matter how cute he is, I will never have a happy and healthy relationship with a fire sign.

That's right, if you are a boy that I have EVER talked to, I probably googled our astrological love compatibility. Sorry Gemini, you are cool, funny, and smart, but a little too out there for me. Call me when you come back down to Earth.

I also appreciate the fact that some days when I look at my horoscope, I am well aware that it'll be a slow day, and some days it'll be the best day ever. I like that honesty, and I like knowing what I can look forward to.

Before I climb on a plane, I even call my sister up to have her ask her psychic friend if I will make it home or die in a tragic ball of fire. It's comforting. Besides she was able to tell me that my neck phobia and my plane phobia were both past life issues. Glad I got that cleared up, I was beginning to think I was a freak.

Yes, I understand that they word the horoscope so that the reader can get any meaning out of it that they wish, I understand that you can't live your life by the stars, and I understand that it makes me look like a dumb girl. My current professor says that astrology is just a symptom of a postmodern world, where there is no center, and the people are left with nothing to hold on to, and so we search for something, anything, to explain the craziness of the world. That's all very well and good, but I am going to pull an Insane Clown Posse here, and say "I'm not listening."

So buzz-kills, please explain to me why it is always so right on. I am the most stereotypical Capricorn I know, and my sister is the perfect example of a Libra.

It should also be noted that when I guy asks for my sign, the most dated and ridiculous pick-up line ever, I actually totally dig it. I don't see it as a cheesy come on, I see it as a gentleman who shares my same religious views. I can picture our wedding already, the theme will be star charts and we will arrange the singles table by signs. Oh and he'll totally be an Earth sign too.
