But here in London, it looks like there is between 1-2 inches of snow outside, just enough to shut down an entire university, and I am totally ok with that.
So anyway, back to the point, snow days. They mean different things to different age groups. As you evolve, so does your perception of a snow day. When you're little they mean everything, they mean freedom, and when you're older they mean beer. No matter what age you are, a day-off is poetry. So here you are, the evolution of the snow day.
0-5 years: When you're this young you have no idea what a snow day is because you barely know where your nose is. When I was just a little gremlin, a snow day was a day when Erin and my mom were both home for no apparent reason. I knew they shouldn't have been, but there they were, this also meant that I didn't have to go to daycare which was absolutely fine with me. While the details remain hazy I do know that there were usually snowsuits, igloos, and hot chocolate.
5-13 years: These were snow days at their finest. These days were spent entirely outside rolling around in your big, padded snowsuits. Making snowmen, having snowball fights, hot chocolate, cookies, neighborhood get-togethers. I remember during this age, the purest of them all, we would wake up, run downstairs to pray that school was canceled, jump around screaming, and then meet up outside with every other kid in the neighborhood. Then we would stay outside until one kind house would take us in and make us lunch, and then it was back out to the winter wonderland. By the end of the day, our faces were so cold they hurt, your snow clothes are soaked through, and you were physically exhausted. Best age to have a snow day by far.
13-18: This was probably the most boring age for a snowday. By 13, you were way too cool to be seen in a snowsuit which meant that you probably spent the day inside at a friend's house or at the mall. This is a prime example of when being too cool is incredibly detrimental to fun.
18-22: This is when shit starts to get real again. You are probably still in college at this point which means a snow day is getting thrown into the snow by guys, and then binge drinking at your local watering hole. This is sort of the best of both worlds, because you are over being too cool to play in the snow, and you have a decent buzz. By the end of the day, you can crawl/pass-out in bed with visions of sugar plums dancing in your head.
22-?: I can only write about what I know and I have no idea what a snow day means to anyone after college. Right now, I'm writing a blog, alone, in front of the fire because our heat doesn't work, so I'm thinking snow days don't get good again until you have kids and igloo making is reinstated.

This movie was set in upstate new york, see I know what I'm talking about.
